Scared

By Ralph Spurgin

Snakes and spiders.
Snipes and swamps
and black bayous.

Ghosts and goblins.
Ghouls and goo
Frightening BOOs!

Witches and warlocks.
Wolfmen and worse
Vats of brew.

Groans and moans.
Shrieks and creaks.
A shadow looms.

Getting scared.
Getting dared.
Up crickety stairs
past signs saying, BEWARE!

The thrill of fearing the night
is fun part of being a boy.
The agony of fearing the light
is a sad part of being a man.
