Our Mission Statement:

Killer Nashville Magazine seeks to publish both fresh and established voices in ANY GENRE that incorporates elements of mystery, thriller, suspense, and/or romance (and we believe all good literary works and art contain those elements to varying degrees). We strive to provide resources to writers and creators of any background, featuring works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and art. We encourage submissions by creators of all races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, sexual orientations, and ability status. Please keep the language in submissions clean.

We welcome literary, mainstream, commercial, and genre fiction, nonfiction, essays, reviews, poetry, and art.

Areas of fiction interest include short stories, flash fiction, poetry, excerpts, and encompass the following genres: action adventure, amateur sleuths, children’s, comedic P.I., comedy, cozies, crime action & adventure, crime caper, espionage, fantasy, gothic, hard-boiled, historicals, horror, international, investigators, juvenile, legal, medical, men’s adventure, mystery, noir, organized crime thrillers, paranormal, police procedural, political, private investigator, procedurals, psychological suspense, romantic suspense, science fiction, sea adventures, serious P.I., Southern Gothic, spy, standard British detectives, supernatural, suspense, terrorism, thriller, war & military, Western, women’s adventures, women sleuths, and YA.

Nonfiction interests include craft articles, creative nonfiction, and interviews, as well as, academic, academic criticism, biography, forensics, law enforcement, publicity/marketing, reference, reviews (film, TV, stage, books), true crime, and discussions of the above fiction areas.

Poetry and art should reflect the nuances above, as well.

If it has, references, dissects, or talks about mystery, thriller, suspense, and/or romance, we’re interested.

FAQs

  • We publish works of ANY genre, though our most common publications incorporate elements of mystery, thriller, suspense, and/or romance (we believe all good stories contain those elements, to varying degrees). Our primary focuses are short stories, flash fiction, poetry, excerpts, creative nonfiction, articles, interviews, reviews, and art, though we are willing to consider pieces that fall outside of those parameters.

  • All submissions should be sent through MachForms HERE. Unsolicited submissions sent through email will not be considered.

  • No! We at Killer Nashville believe that authors/creators should not have to pay to publish their work.

  • Killer Nashville Magazine is run by a talented and experienced team of industry professionals, editors, writers, and creators of all kinds, all of whom will read your work! We are led by Clay Stafford, an author, filmmaker, composer, educator, public speaker, and consultant who oversees all Killer Nashville operations.

  • We prefer to receive submissions in a .doc or .docx file type, set to 12-point Times New Roman or a similar font. We currently have no restrictions on word counts, though submitters should keep standard lengths in mind.

  • We strive to provide a timely response and editorial feedback to every submission we receive, but it varies depending on the volume of submissions. Please wait at least two weeks before inquiring about the status of your submission, and please do not respond to letters of rejection.

  • Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis for our monthly publication.

  • Yes! We are happy to consider multiple submissions from the same author/creator at once.When you submit be sure to inform us of how many pieces you’ve sent in, and let our team know if you currently have any pieces waiting for approval.

  • Yes! You are allowed to have pieces submitted to Killer Nashville that have also been submitted to other publications. If a piece you have submitted is published elsewhere please notify us so that we can pull it from consideration.

  • Because we are a not for profit organization and every cent made goes back into the magazine, we are currently unable to provide monetary compensation for accepted submissions. However, authors will enjoy the benefits of having their work published on our internationally visited site, as well as promotion on Killer Nashville’s social media and email newsletter.

  • Killer Nashville Magazine welcomes submissions by writers and creators of all nationalities, ethnicities, backgrounds, faiths, genders, orientations, abilities, identities, and experiences. We are especially interested in seeing submissions by people of historically underrepresented or excluded backgrounds including but not limited to women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ and non-binary people, persons with disabilities, members of religious minorities, and people from or living outside of the United States.
