Dreams Through Glass
By William Mathews
Rain falls down, drops stain the glass-
Looking out like watching acts-
Seeing the world around unfold-
Can’t touch the reality that you behold-
Feeling inside aches and burns-
For something, you don’t know what, a want, a yearn-
A way to satiate a gnawing hunger-
For something never seen, a wonder-
My hand on the window glass leaves a mark-
When what’s on the other side of the glass has my heart-
A call from the mountains on high-
From the forests deep, and the mists of sky-
Do you feel it too?
